Announcing: Some Major Updates
The only music media entity that's simultaneously pivoting to print and investing in a digital community-building platform. Don't worry, we're not doing NFT's.
Dear Endless Scroll reader/listener/Tweeter/hater,
The following announcement grants us our Important Digital Media Company wings: we’re restructuring. Don’t worry, it’s not like the “Vaulter” episode of Succession.
As we enter our fourth (!) year of doing the Endless Scroll podcast with triple the listenership that we had in January 2021, and approach year three of our companion written publication (this newsletter), we’ve decided to introduce some major updates that will ensure higher-quality written content and more opportunities to engage with our wonderful fans.
In short: we’re putting our newsletter on indefinite hiatus and creating a quarterly print zine called Where Those Two Things Intersect. Additionally, we’re launching an Endless Scroll Discord server that will be accessible to all of our Patreon subscribers in the coming weeks.
Eli and Eric started this newsletter in the spring of 2020 as an exercise to write about a different song every day of the week, M-F. It was fun but a ridiculous amount of work, so when Michael and Miranda joined Endless Scroll in the spring of 2021, we shifted to publishing one newsletter per week, and we’ve been so grateful to see how many of you either stuck around or signed up to follow our work in that format.
However, recording two podcast episodes and writing a newsletter every week has made it challenging to meet our high standards of quality, so we’ve decided to pivot to a more manageable format that’s hopefully also more intriguing to our readers. With Miranda’s background as a successful independent zine publisher, Eli’s experience working at a music magazine, and our collective desire to be more creative, more thoughtful, and more personable with our writing, we’re extremely excited to begin working on a quarterly print zine that will truly embody what we think makes Endless Scroll special.
Each 24-page edition of Where Those Two Things Intersect will include:
-Blurbs on songs that each of us have been listening to (just like this newsletter)
-One “cover story” essay from each of us about…whatever the fuck we want (music, the internet, etc.)
-A “Vinyl Cubby” column in which we reveal recent additions to our physical music collections
-Michael and Eli’s rap column (formerly the Wednesday edition of the initial ES newsletter)
-Personal playlists from each of us
-Teen Beat-style questionnaires about us — your favorite music critic’s favorite music critics
The first edition will be mailed out in February, with future editions to follow in the summer, fall and winter. You can pre-order the first edition now via our brand new Big Cartel store or receive every edition by subscribing at the $10 tier of our Patreon (see below).
With that said….some Patreon tier updates:
With the dissolution of our digital newsletter, we’re making some changes to the tiers of our Patreon. Crucially, there will no longer be a $2 tier, which was designed specifically for this newsletter. The new benefits for each tier are as follows:
Lurker: $1 per month
-Invitation to join the official Endless Scroll Discord server where you can chat directly with us and other Scrollers about music, the internet, etc. outside of pod hours.
-We thank you by name at the end of every Endless Scroll podcast episode.
Reply Guy: $5 per month
-Access to our Bonus Episode feed where we post an additional episode of the podcast every week. Double the takes, double the spice.
-Invitation to join the official Endless Scroll Discord server where you can chat directly with us and other Scrollers about music, the internet, etc. outside of pod hours.
-We thank you by name at the end of every Endless Scroll podcast episode.
Friend of the Pod: $10 per month
-Every edition of our quarterly zine mailed to your house!
-You get to periodically choose what we talk about on the show — request an album review, a discog dive, thoughts on a specific scene/era of music, make us watch a movie. The opportunities are limitless.
-Occasional goodies from Michael (this is the real seller)
-Access to our Bonus Episode feed where we post an additional episode of the podcast every week. Double the takes, double the spice.
-Invitation to join the official Endless Scroll Discord server where you can chat directly with us and other Scrollers about music, the internet, etc. outside of pod hours.
-We thank you by name at the end of every Endless Scroll podcast episode.
And that’s it! For now!
Whether you’re a paid subscriber to the Endless Scroll Patreon or a free subscriber to this newsletter, we sincerely appreciate that you’re interested in what we have to say. Again, we can’t express how stoked we are to keep making Endless Scroll, and we truly couldn’t continue doing this without your support. Thank you!
We’ll now be using this newsletter as a mailing list to share information about our twice-weekly podcast episodes, announce new zines, share updates about Endless Scroll, and maybe even blast out the occasional digital-only blog post if one of us feels the call.
