Tuesday 5/11: Fresh—"My Redemption Arc"
Today, we share our thoughts on a recent song by the UK indie-punk band Fresh.
Welcome to Endless Scroll, the brainchild of Eli Enis (he/him), Eric Bennett (they/them), Michael Brooks (he/him) and Miranda Reinert (she/her). Since Feb. 2019, we’ve been a weekly podcast about music, the internet, and where those two things intersect. On Substack, we’re also a M-F newsletter about songs. Our format is simple: a link to a song and a short take from each of us about what we think of it. Each day of the week has a corresponding genre: Monday is indie, Tuesday is punk, Wednesday is hip-hop, Thursday is pop, and Friday is misc. Three days of the week are free but you can get access to all five weekly posts by subscribing for $5/month via Substack or $2/month via our Patreon.

Fresh—"My Redemption Arc"
Miranda Reinert:
Fresh is a band in my very favorite vein of indie punk-- the melodic, tilting theatrical kind from the UK. It’s bright, fun, and catchy with a bit more of a whimsical spin than a lot of the American counterparts to this sort of thing. This song has Kathryn Woods’ vocals at their best, providing a perfect balance to the driving guitar and drum section that surrounds it. I watched Kathryn debut this one on instagram the day before their new EP, The Summer I Got Good at Guitar. She played it just on an acoustic guitar and I was immediately sold. I remain sold on this song and will listen to it on repeat on any pleasantly warm day that comes through Philadelphia.
Eric Bennett:
This song has certainly made a powerful first impression on me. I enjoy how it moves, just marching forth with a confident stride. The vocals are bafflingly theatrical and the saccharine tone of them contrasts in a way that kinda feels genius. It’s like they’ve placed a Disney princess as the front person of the band. I can’t say I’ll be delving further into this group, but it’s cool to know someone is making music that sounds like this
