Welcome to Endless Scroll, the brainchild of Eli Enis (he/him) and Eric Bennett (they/them). Since Feb. 2019, we’ve been a weekly podcast about music, the internet, and where those two things intersect. Now, we’re also a M-F newsletter about songs.
Our format is simple: a link to a song and a one-paragraph take from each of us about what we think of it. Each day of the week has a corresponding genre, which we’ve broken down below to give you an idea of what you’re in for:
Monday: Indie
Yes, we’re fully aware of how broad the term “indie” is and we’ll treat it as such. We’ll use this day to review tracks by bands that we describe as indie-rock, indie-pop, dream-pop, shoegaze, or power-pop. Stuff your friend who doesn’t care about genre would shruggingly describe as “indie” 🤷
Tuesday: Punk
Another broad category, but we want to be an all-encompassing music newsletter. Tuesdays will be dedicated to songs that we describe as being punk, pop-punk, emo, post-punk, or hardcore. If you’re Eric’s parents, you probably dislike the songs on Tuesday. If you’re Eli’s parents, you might add them to a Spotify playlist or say they remind you of something you saw at a NY club in the ‘80s.
Wednesday: Hip-hop
We don’t usually cover hip-hop on the podcast, but Eli listens to a lot of it and wants an outlet to scribble some thoughts down on whatever he’s vibing with on a given week. There are no real limits to what you’ll find on this day: streaming sensations and buried YouTube treasures are both on the table. Also, we can’t guarantee that Eric won’t, at one point, tepidly glow about an Azaelia Banks song.
Thursday: Pop
For Thursday, we’ll mostly be focusing on mainstream pop music, but we won’t refrain from covering slightly more obscure artists if we feel like it. The emphasis will be on glossy pop; stuff you’d want to dance to or hear in the backseat of an Uber. You might see more of Eric’s than Eli’s thoughts on Thursdays, because pop is their specialty.
Friday: Miscellaneous
Friday is 🤪 day. On Fridays, we write about whatever doesn’t fit into the previous four categories. It could be a country song, an electronic banger, a piece of puzzling experimental music, an R&B tune, or something else entirely. The idea here is to showcase stuff that we probably won’t talk about on the podcast, and that’s maybe even outside of our personal comfort zones, but strike us as interesting nonetheless.
